One feature I for one would find quite useful is the ability to arrange the buttons in the taskbar as I see fit. Sadly though the Microsoft developed Windows XP and the Windows Vista operating systems do not provide such an option. So if I want to have a particular order in my taskbar buttons, I have to open files and launch programs in sequence.

To keep Firefox the first button in the taskbar I have to open it first – which is a pain because if I accidentally close it, I have to close everything else and start all over again. Speaking of Firefox, the Mozilla developed browser lets me switch tabs around as I see fit; so why wouldn’t Windows XP and Windows Vista?

That is where the right piece of software comes in. Just because something is not built into the Windows operating system does not mean you can’t get it from a handy piece of software. Taskix is the right piece of software if you want to be able to arrange items in the Windows taskbar as you see fit. Something that will definitely come in handy if you have a lot of open windows.

The main tings you need to know about Taskix are:
- It is so lightweight (under 1MB) that you will not even realize when the download completed. And once you have downloaded the software, you need only install it. The installation wizard will guide you though all the steps so you’ll be up and running no time.
- Taskix is offered free of charge. That’s right, you do not need to pay to enjoy the functionality this Robust IT-developed application has to offer. Since you don’t have to part with your hard earned money, why not put Taskix though its paces and see if it has what you’re looking for.

There is one downside though. Microsoft, in its attempt to make the latest iteration of the Windows operating system the best so far, included the option to switch taskbar buttons around into Windows 7. Since Windows 7 provides this option by default, Taskix may not look so useful. Still, it is a handy piece of software for XP and Vista users.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Free of charge

Cons

  • Windows 7 offers the option to switch taskbar items around by default. So Taskix is useful only to XP and Vista users.
